The aim of the project is to facilitate the adaptation of local territorial and religious communities located in the expanded and adjacent national parks to the new conditions of practical environmental management and environmental behavior through the joint efforts of the church, municipalities and NGOs. A significant outcome of the project is the establishment of a dialogue between local communities and national park administrations with the support of the church and the development of models for the practical implementation of their interaction based on the practical skills and competences offered in the training.
Objective of the international conference: on the basis of preliminary consultations in the European Parliament, in the European Commission, in the DBU, experts from NABU, IRCEF, IERS, representatives of national parks, “Turinform Zakarpatia”, local environmental NGOs, local religious and territorial communities are necessary:
Discuss the state of dialogue between the administrations of protected areas and the local population:
- discuss the status of dialogue between the administrations of protected areas and the local population;
- assess the needs of local communities and their ability to develop methodological materials to assist protected areas administrations;
- to approve the developed cases for the publication of the manual and information campaign, coordination of scientific, theological and civil parts of the work;
- discuss national and international funding opportunities for IRCEF.
Leaders of a number of national parks of Ukraine, delegates from “ecological” divisions of churches and religious organizations, as well as representatives of NGOs, authorities, mass media and scientific world of Ukraine and Germany were invited to the conference. Besides, it is expected that Mrs. Rebecca Harms, member of the European Parliament, member of the leadership of the German Green Party, Dr. Michael Vogel – former Director of the Berchtesgaden National Park, NABU employee, Mr. Wilhelm Kulke – former Special Representative of the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU), in the past, DBU Special Representative for Eastern Europe; Boris Tichomirov – Head of Central Asia and Eastern Europe (NABU) will participate in the event.
Direct reach: 35-50 experts, academics, NGO and church leaders, community activists.
Opening of the conference: Saturday, September 28.
Closing of the conference: Wednesday, September 30.
Expenses on travel, accommodation and meal for invited participants are covered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
